Pete Hamilton was a NASCAR driver who was born on July 20, 1942, in Dedham, Massachusetts. He began his racing career in the late 1960s and quickly gained success in the sport. Hamilton is best known for winning the Daytona 500 in 1970, driving a Plymouth Superbird for Petty Enterprises.

Throughout his career, Hamilton competed in 64 NASCAR Cup Series races, earning four wins, 26 top-ten finishes, and four pole positions. In addition to his victory at the Daytona 500, he also won races at Talladega, Charlotte, and Talledega.

Sadly, Pete Hamilton's racing career was cut short due to injuries sustained in a crash at Talladega in 1971. He retired from racing shortly after and passed away on March 21, 2017, at the age of 74.
